Kassidy Sauve Makes The Big Saves In AYCANE
Catching up with AYCANE ambassador, Kassidy Sauve, in the midst of her summer rehab and training program, we got the goalie’s perspective on what it’s like to play net in AYCANE hockey base layers.
“The quality is just really good,” she says. “Before I was wearing another base layer. The big thing I noticed previously was that the AYCANE bottoms are thicker, but don’t make you feel hot. I would get really hot in my undergarments, and it’s the absolute worst thing to feel hot during a game. It’s distracting.
“The other baselayers also stuck to my skin, but I don’t have those issues in AYCANE. I don’t overheat and feel comfortable throughout the game. It’s a total benefit to my performance.”
Whether stretching to make post-to-post saves or mad scrambles for loose pucks at a moment’s notice, goalies need reliable performance from their base layers more than even the players upfront. The reactionary nature of goaltending means comfort under their gear has to be the furthest thing from their minds.
According to Sauve, that’s exactly what AYCANE provides.
“I’ve never had a single moment on the ice where I thought about my base layers, felt hot, or felt uncomfortable,” she says. “When I get off the ice, I notice I don’t feel soaked or overheated like I used to. Now I don’t even sweat it.”
Not only that — she’s also noticed her AYCANE base layers last longer.
“I’d wear through the knees in my old base layers and they’d start to stink and not perform as well over time, but my AYCANE base layers still look and feel like new after wearing them 5 times a week for over a year.”
Sauve is making her way back from surgery to repair a torn labrum in her hip and expects to be at full strength before she reports to training camp for the upcoming season (AUTHOR’S NOTE: At the time of the interview, Kassidy had signed with the Boston Pride of the Premier Hockey Federation, but now all players are free agents as of the league’s purchase and merger with the PWHPA to create one women’s North American hockey league. She now awaits word on where she will play.)
“I was fully cleared on June 16 and am getting ready for the season,” she says. “I’m stronger than I was before. I’m excited to go to a new city and have a different experience. Especially coming back healthy, it’s great to have a fresh start.”
She’ll continue training at home in Canada in her AYCANE workout apparel, but Sauve is ready to join her new teammates.
“I’m just pumped to get back into it,” she says. It’s hard to take time away and miss out on that team dynamic. I’m excited to meet my new teammates and get back into the routine of being on the ice and practicing. I want to see all the work I’ve put in over the past 4-5 months pay off.”
